getbracknell survey: What do you want in new town centre?

The long-awaited regeneration of Bracknell looks like it will finally begin this summer.

Businesses have been given their final warnings to leave their units and trees are being removed so the demolition work can start.

After years of stagnation, the project has moved forward quickly in the last year.

Council chief promises town centre regeneration is not far off

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership has already confirmed the new town centre will feature a 12-screen Cineworld complex and a Marks & Spencer store.

Homesense or TK Maxx would be good, but lets have a whole range of stores so we don't need to go into Reading shopping, and lets have a range of places to pop in for a drink and something to eat.

I think we should all group together and march into Harrods. I've already sown the seed to them that when they land up having to close that they take up all the empty market stalls. That way, the market would then get all the people who currently go to Harrods and the market would then be a place with a vast selection of goods. Ok, they won't be able to fit their entire shop in there but at least it would give a massive range of other goods which we don't have there at the moment. The more people who go into them and suggest it, the more they might just think about looking into it. I am going to class this as my inspirational idea of the month!

Oh lord, the Museum of Bracknell Life is back on the agenda is it?

Old Oaks - hoi polloi? Sums BCA up nicely. I don't know about good shops for blokes like you but Fenton my man Friday suggests Trojans Men's Sauna.

Carmella - deary - you want somewhere decent to go out? Try the A329M out of Bracknell.

Personally, I won't be satisfied until A1 Stores and Raja Continental take pride of place in the town centre. Truly the only retailers of any worth in this town.

I would agree with the majority of the comments below. Of course we need a much better looking Town Centre than the one we have today. Shops/Chains that you can find in neighbour cities are much needed and would be very welcomed. On the other side, I believe we should retain a bit of indipendent shops to differentiate ourself. Also, the ideas I've heard to have something "cultural", like an Art Centre (like ReOrsa) or a Museum (on the history of Berkshire as proposed by our MP) would be definitively something that would make our new Town Centre more enjoyable.

Is it who we want to come here or who wants to come here. At the moment people make the trek to, for instance, Primark in Reading or Camberley so opening a branch in Bracknell will increase their overheads without increasing their sales. There needs to be incentive for a nucleus of the more popular stores to move here so we don't have to go elsewhere, the rest will follow.

Not sure I can see the point of wasting valuable finger tapping time but here goes: Independent Butcher, Independent Green Grocer, Ind ependent electrical store, Independent Fish Monger, Independent Cafe’s, Independent Pet store, Independent Material store, Independent Haberdashery store, Independent Gifts and Plants, Independent cake decorating store, Independent Clothes store, Independent anything else? Bu**er me, I’ve just listed many of the market stalls there. Better add a Primark for good measure
