It was a pan-tastic day in Bracknell when a team of top tossers from Waitrose took first place in the annual town centre pancake race.

The relay, organised by Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, saw teams from businesses across Bracknell, race through Broadway in an attempt to be crowned the flipping best. Two teams from the supermarket chain took part in this year’s race but one team crêped ahead in the first leg after the team from the Bracknell Forest Standard was syrupticiously disqualified from the race.

The egg-static victors then went on to beat another local news team, scrambling into the final against Stocker Soccer, a five-a-side football league, and youth gym, SHOKK.

Waitrose team crowned pancake race champions

Bradley Austin, member of the winning Waitrose team and Bracknell’s Youth MP, said: “We won this as a team so I can’t take all the credit for it but I did run the last leg!”

Team mate Phil Gale added: “I’m exhausted!

“It’s amazing that we won, especially as we thought we’d been knocked out in the first round.”

Last year’s champions, charity Sebastian’s Action Trust, entered two teams, but neither made it past the first round.

Gemma Tizzard, BRP’s marketing executive said: “It’s great to see so many teams from local businesses taking part.

“We had 12 teams taking part this year which is more than we’ve had in the past.

“It’s been a great way to finish as we won’t be able to do it from here once the regeneration works start.”
