Beautiful blooms at Crowthorne Horticultural Society show

Despite poor weather throughout the growing season there was a higher than expected number of entries at Crowthorne Horticultural Society’s autumn show.

Members displayed their produce at Our Lady’s Preparatory School, in The Avenue, on Saturday, September 8.

Among the winners was Colin Killick who received a certificate of merit for his prizewinning raspberries, and Judy Mobsby who won the Vegetable Cup.

Gerald Cooper, society secretary, said: “It went very well all things considered with the weather.

“Lots of shows have been cancelled because the weather had an adverse affect on the flowers and vegetables.

“Although the numbers were down, as expected, a lot of people came through the door during the afternoon.

“Having seen other shows and seeing their numbers were down, it was better than expected.”

The society will hear a talk about roses at its next meeting at Crowthorne Parish Hall, in Heath Hill Road South, on Tuesday, October 9.

A plant sale will also take place from 7pm ahead of the talk which begins at 7.30pm. Visitors are welcome.
