By Jessica Hemson
September 19, 2012

A singing group for people living with dementia was relaunched on Monday.

Singing for the Brain, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, aims to help people with memory problems, specifically those with dementia and their carers, to help them sustain mental and psychological well-being.

Lynn Chandler, Alzheimer’s Society support services manager Berkshire, said: “Singing for the Brain provides an opportunity to build friendships, gain support and share experiences with people who understand the issues surrounding living with dementia. We have specifically trained facilitators who deliver a varied programme of vocal, rhythmic and gentle physical exercise.”

The group meets on Mondays from 10.30am-12pm at Langley Hall, The Ring. Anyone interested can contact Geraldine Durrant of Alzheimer’s Society on 07713 390714 or email Geraldine.Durrant@alzheimers.org.uk.

Sounds fantastic, good for the emotional and physical health too. I hope this goes really well, the benefits of singing are fantastic. I sing with 'SingHealthy Bracknell' a local community choir based in bracknell (www.singhealthy.co.uk) and although I do not have memory problems, I get a lot of enjoyment from singing; it is very uplifting and I certainly feel fitter.
