  • A ‘PROGRESSIVE picnic’ held last month in Guildford raised more than £550 for charities supported by All Saints’ Church.
    Appetisers, starters and cream teas were among the courses served at locations in Onslow Village, and there was also a recital and evensong at the church in Vicarage Gate.
  • REDECORATION at St John’s Centre in Merrow should be completed by the end of today (Friday).
    The centre closed on Monday last week to allow for the work to take place. The facility opened in 2001 and was built with the help of a grant of £200,000 and more than £350,000, which was raised by members of St John’s and the community of Merrow.

  • WATTS Gallery in Compton will be hosting a children’s arts club from 10.45am to 1.15pm on Saturday September 1, focusing on using acrylic paints.
    The session costs £5 each, or £4 for members, and is for 11 to 15-year-olds.
  • THE Ash Parish Council and planning meetings will be held on September 10 from 6.30pm at Ash Centre, Ash Hill Road.
    Villagers are welcome to attend and there will be an allotted time to put forward issues to the parish councillors.

  • A FUN play and craft group has started in Ripley Village Hall for children aged between 18 months and six years old, to run throughout August. The sessions run every Wednesday from 10am to 11.30am and snacks are provided for children, with tea, coffee and cakes for adults.
    Attendance costs £4 per child and £3 for additional siblings, with those under 18 months, free.
  • GUESTS from Switzerland will be present at a Swiss Evensong at St Martin’s Church, East Horsley, on Sunday September 2.
    Anyone is welcome to the event at 6pm, which will feature Alpine horns and possibly yodelling. The event will be followed by Anglo/Swiss refreshments and a collection.
