Rain can't ruin Emmets Park jubilee street party

Residents in Emmets Park panic-bought umbrellas and shelters to face the rain for their street party.

With celebrations connected to the Big Lunch, around 50 neighbours got together for party food and games, most of them dressed in red, white and blue.

Organiser Jackie Cooper said: “We had an excellent afternoon despite the pouring rain as residents crowded under a number of hastily purchased gazebos and garden umbrellas.”

Everyone brought their own food and drink to share with a selection of traditional desserts including trifle, cream scones and a variety of Union Jack cakes.

The children were kept entertained with a craft stall and giant chalk to decorate the street with a jubilee-themed quiz for the adults.

Jackie added: “The rainy puddles proved the greatest entertainment to some of the children – a great time was had by all.”
