Youngsters living in the Jennett’s Park housing estate have a place to go for fun and adventure now a new Beaver colony has been launched – the first new group to be started in South Berkshire for 20 years.
And hot on its heels is a new Cub pack which could start in Jennett’s Park after Easter.
The 1st Jennett’s Park Beaver colony held its opening meeting on Monday, March 5, and eight boys and girls from the estate turned up for a session of art and crafts.
The South Berkshire Scouts group is overseeing the set-up of the new group and is in the process of setting up the Cub pack.
The group’s research shows there is demand for Cubs on the estate and it has not ruled out opening a Scout troop in the future for older children in Jennett’s Park.
Three parents have stepped forward as leaders for the new Beaver group.
Pam Pearce, from South Berkshire Scouts, said: “Scouting in Bracknell is split into two areas and this is the first new group to open in the South Berkshire area for around 20 years.
“We’re very pleased to have opened the new group.
“It was a great first session. They did some arts and crafts and next week will be making Mother’s Day cards.
“We are looking for a few more children.
“I’d like to stress it is mixed. A lot of people think it’s just for boys, but it’s not – it’s for boys and girls now.”
