Innersense keyed up at Co-op donation

June 10, 2009

A charity for people with learning disabilities in Bracknell has received cash from the Co-operative group.

Community arts group Innersense was given £2,200 by the supermarket chain and used the cash to buy a new keyboard for performances and workshops.

The charity runs multi-sensory theatre workshops for people with multiple and profound learning disabilities.

Innersense director Paul Wilkinson said: “We can do up to five workshops each day, which means this new equipment is in constant use.

“We build different environments, from ice mountains to a jungle scene, and given its sophisticated model it [the keyboard] allows us to create very different moods.

“If we get the music right, it gives people more encouragement to take part.

“This is a really important piece of equipment and we are very grateful to the Co-operative for this help.”

The donation came out of the Co-operative’s Community Fund, which allows shareholders to donate all or some of their twice-yearly payouts to charity.

Owen Jell, Co-operative regional secretary, said: “The Community Fund can make a real and lasting contribution to local communities.”
