Yaz a shining example as gig is a hit

A rapper called Rottweiler was the star of the show at a concert organised by a girl of 17 to fight knife crime.

Hip-hop beats filled the hall of Sandhurst School on Sunday as Yasmin Kabir’s Hip Hop Dance Benefit entertained a crowd of more than 150 people.

Yasmin, whose friends call her Yazzie, organised the concert in aid of the Ben Kinsella Fund – a charity named after a teenager who was stabbed in London.

The show, which featured young dancers from across the borough, was given a boost by an appearance by Reading rapper Rottweiler and raised £350 for the charity.

Yasmin’s mum Louisa Kabir said: “It went really well, Yazzie did really well to organise it all – she had people let her down and more. It was a lot of pressure.

“It was nice to have someone like Rottweiler there because I think most people think people who dress like him are the ones out causing the trouble but he was lovely and showed that they’re not.”

The concert proved so popular that it had to be moved from its original venue of The Spot in Owlsmoor Road to the larger Sandhurst School hall.

Yasmin, of Avocet Crescent, Sandhurst, said: “My mate told me that one of his friends had died because he’d been stabbed and then I heard about Ben Kinsella getting stabbed and it really moved me.

“That’s when I decided that we should do this concert.”

Yazzie’s Hip Hop Dance Class at The Spot has been running for nine months.
