Active employees scoop award

December 05, 2002

EMPLOYEES at an international engineering company in Reading have scooped a European award.

The team at Foster Wheeler Energy Ltd (FWEL), in Shinfield Park, beat off six other firms to win the ACTIVE Cup, organised by the European Construction Institute (ECI).

It is the fourth time in seven years they have won the award.

As part of the annual challenge, employees had to complete a simulated exercise where they had to manage the construction of an environmental monitoring station in a ‘remote area'.

The five-strong team spent a weekend at Cranfield University, near Milton Keynes, and had to submit an update on their project every 20 minutes.

The winners were picked because they operated according to ACTIVE principles, including teamwork and good practice.

Penny Armitage, senior project engineer, said: "It was a great challenge. It gave us the opportunity to see the benefits of a dynamic management team working directly with the client, contractors and other competitiors."
