Thomas Cook announces Bracknell and Wokingham branches safe from closure
By Jennie SlevinMarch 08, 2013
Jobs in Bracknell and Wokingham have been saved after Thomas Cook announced which of its branches would remain open.
Bosses from the holiday company met on Wednesday, March 6 to discuss plans to close 195 high street stores and axe 2,500 jobs.
However, the travel operators have now confirmed that neither the shop in High Street, Bracknell, Market Place, Wokingham or in Woodley town centre will be closed.
The announcement that Thomas Cook UK and Ireland would be closing nearly 200 of its 1,069 stores came as it entered a 90 day consultation process.
Peter Fankhauser, Thomas Cook UK & Ireland’s CEO, said: “It is essential that we operate with the right number of people as we move forward into the next era for our company.
“We firmly believe these proposals will mean a better – more profitable – Thomas Cook that continues to be a major employer in the UK and offer the widest range of holidays for travellers and voyagers in the future."
