Berkshire councils unite over superfast broadband
February 14, 2013
All the local authorities in Berkshire will be working together to get superfast broadband in the county.
Reading and Wokingham will be investing with the four other unitary authorities – with West Berkshire taking the lead – in setting up a project board to procure a broadband solution for the whole county.
The six councils have a Government grant of £1.4 million which they must match with their own funding and, together with expected private sector cash, it will bring the total investment to £6 million.
A potential field of nine suppliers has now been reduced to two – BT and Fujitsu.
Reading Borough Council’s cabinet is expected on Monday to delegate the final decision to the Superfast Broadband Project to enter into an agreement with the successful provider.
