Leading businesses and organisations are joining together to ensure this year’s Green Park Triathlon is the most successful yet.
Global companies such as Cisco and Quintiles are sponsoring the charity fundraising event, along with locally-based businesses such as onephysiotherapy at Madejski Stadium.
Organisers are encouraging more competitors to come forward to take part in the triathlon in March in aid of Red Nose Day.
Organiser Nigel Townley, engineering director at Cisco Systems, said: “Events like the Green Park Triathlon not only rely on a lot of hard work, good will and dedicated volunteers, but also sponsorship.
“In the four years we have run this event, it never ceases to amaze me the generosity of not only those who sponsor the competition but even more importantly the sponsors and volunteers who make the event possible.”
Cisco itself established the triathlon with Green Park and Nuffield Health in 2010 and every pound contributed by a Cisco employee is matched by the company.
Pharmaceuticals giant Quintiles, based in Brook Drive, Green Park, whose staff raised more than £10,000 through last year’s triathlon, is corporate sponsor.
Company spokeswoman Sharon Newton said: “Quintiles is passionate about the health and wellbeing of its staff and the triathlon proved to be a very inclusive event, appealing to people of any sporting ability, that not only inspired our staff to get fit but also to raise money for such a great cause.”
Nuffield Health is opening up its Lime Square gym to competitors who register for the event. It will be also be hosting the swimming part of the competition for the fourth year running and providing changing facilities on the day.
Green Park, owned by sponsor Oxford Properties, hosts the event and sponsors the Challenge Cup which is awarded to the team or individual who raise the most cash in sponsorship. Cisco was the winner last year.
Triathlon clothing and equipment supplier My Sporting Times is an organising sponsor whose team brings years of experience running major triathlon events.
Physio and sports massage will be offered by event sponsors onephysiotherapy, whose facilities at Madejski Stadium include a fully equipped gym, a hydrotherapy pool and acupuncture.
DB Max will be supplying competitors with its precision chip timing service while British Bike Hire will be offering bicycles to triathlon contestants at preferential rates. Cisco partner EOS Unified Solutions is supporting the event while the Reading Post/getreading is media sponsor.
The Green Park Triathlon on Tuesday, March 5, offers the Sprint or shorter Funathon courses which can be entered by teams or individuals.
