Bracknell will have a second chance to put in a Portas Pilot bid as the Government is offering 15 more towns the chance to receive funding.

Bracknell bids for Mary Portas cash

Twelve towns were chosen last month to receive £100,000 to support innovative new ideas to rejuvenate high streets and town centres as part of a scheme set up by retail guru Mary Portas.

Dr Phillip Lee, MP for Bracknell, said: “Everyone has worked extremely hard putting the Bracknell bid together and the news that we were unsuccessful has come as a disappointment.

“I welcome the Government’s decision to open up a second bidding round. I will continue to do all I can to make the case for Bracknell to receive investment as a Portas Pilot to turn our town around.”

Bids will be automatically resubmitted but can be tweaked before Saturday, June 30 with the second round of the competition to be announced at the end of July.
