New data centre for Western Road

By Julie Spencer
November 03, 2011

A data centre is to be built on Bracknell’s Western Road.

Property firm Hermes Real Estate Investment Management Ltd and GCE Data Centres have paid £2.5 million for 43 Western Road.

Planning permission was granted last year to build a metal-clad, flat-roofed 60,000 sq ft building for the storage of information.

The units now on the site are expected to be demolished this month.

The new building on the 3.2 acre site, which has been used for warehousing and light industry, will have a huge power supply.

Chris Darroch, fund director at Hermes, said: “Sites such as Bracknell which have planning and power are a rarity indeed. Therefore, we believe this site, which lies in the centre of the IT corridor, will strongly appeal to the data centre market.”
