BG graduates show superb community spirit

Graduates starting with BG Group donned their overalls and gardening gloves to help community projects in Reading.

The global oil and gas company, which has its headquarters at Thames Valley Business Park, enrolled more than 70 people on its two-year graduate programme this September.

Since joining, the graduates have been getting to know each other with team building exercises during a two-week induction that finished last Thursday with a charity day.

Phil Magurn, head of global graduate recruitment, explained: “This year we have 73 graduates from nine countries and 14 different nationalities.

“The feedback I had was very impressive. There was a fear the graduates would think they were being forced to do it, but they threw themselves into it and really seemed to enjoy it.”

The group were split into two with some heading to Scours Lane allotments in Tilehurst to help out with gardening duties, while others went to Phoenix Day Services in West Reading. While there the group helped tidy up the garden and decorate indoors.

During their two-year programme the graduates will be set four assignments lasting six months and will have the opportunity to work in various worldwide locations.
