Business properties standing empty

August 31, 2010

More than 50 commercial properties with rateable values greater than £50,000 have stood empty in Wokingham for the last six months.

Figures released under a Freedom of Information request made to Wokingham Borough Council show 54 properties across the Wokingham area have been empty for more than half a year – including nine in Molly Millar’s Lane.

The list of empty properties includes two in Wharfdale Road, Winnersh, at rateable values of more than £200,000 and one in Ashville Way, Wokingham, worth £260,000.

The information, released on Friday, August 6, details empty properties, which are not owned by anyone and there is no one liable to pay rates.

Commercial properties across Twyford, Earley and Shinfield have also remained empty for an extended period although there have been suggestions Wokingham could be in a strong position for growth following the recession, as reported in The Wokingham Times in July.

Last month a survey from independent business expert The Work Foundation placed Wokingham alongside Reading and Bracknell as areas with most potential for growth in their economic markets.
