Dell’s Streak aims for bite of iPhone market share

International IT company Dell, based in Bracknell, is going head to head with computer giant Apple by releasing a product to rival the iPad and iPhone.

Dell, with its HQ in the Amen Corner Business Park in Binfield, has announced plans to release Streak – a state-of-the-art ‘tablet’ computer.

The Dell Streak will allow users to surf the internet, play games, listen to music, watch films, make voice calls, send text messages, access their email and more.

Ron Garriques, president of Dell Communication Solutions Group, said: “The Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets. Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect and navigate their lives.”

The touch-screen on the Streak will be six inches wide, nearly three inches high an only half an inch thick – larger than a phone but smaller than tablets like Apple’s iPad.

It will feature 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections and will come with Google Maps built-in, a five megapixel camera and up to 32 gigabytes of memory – enough to store up to 42 films or 16,000 songs.

Dell plans to release the Streak, and price details this month.
