Michael Portillo will speak on future of UK economy

February 02, 2010

A famous face from the world of politics will be speaking at a business event organised by Bracknell Chamber of Commerce.

Former Tory MP Michael Portillo will be the guest speaker at the launch of the “Business Insight 2010” at Ascot Racecourse on Friday, February 5.

Mr Portillo used to brief Margaret Thatcher before her press conferences, and acted as an adviser to former chancellor Nigel Lawson.

He lost his seat in Enfield Southgate in 1997, came back in Kensington and Chelsea from 1999 to 2005 and now has  a media career.

Phillip Montague, business manager for Bracknell Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Launch of Business Insight 2010, by Bracknell Chamber of Commerce, is set to be a sell-out event and we are looking forward to gaining an understanding of the UK economy from such a celebrated individual.

“Michael will draw on his personal and professional experience to share his thoughts on how the UK economy will fare over the next few months and we expect a lively debate in the Q&A session when he will welcome questions and comments from attendees.”

The event will feature four students from Charters School in Sunningdale who competed for the chance to meet and pose a question to Mr Portillo.

It also has presentations from international firms including Google, Waitrose, HSBC and Microsoft with their predictions for life after the recession.

I was up for Michael Portillo in 1997. Great moment it was. Almost as good as when he hid in a cupboard from Martin Salter.
