Dragon's praise for M4 project

November 23, 2009

Work to improve a Wokingham motorway junction has been recognised with an environmental excellence award presented by Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden.

The M4 Junction 11 improvement scheme was honoured by the Chartered Institution of Waste Management (CIWM) at a ceremony in London on Wednesday, November 11.

The project, which is scheduled for completion by next summer, has set new standards of sustainability by the re-use and recycling of construction materials and sourcing and use of local recycled materials where possible.

The scheme won the award in the category of ‘construction and demolition – product use and sustainable product development’ in the CIWM awards.

The scheme is led by Reading Borough Council, working in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council, the Highways Agency, Peter Brett Associates and contractors Laing O’Rourke.

Councillor Keith Baker, executive member for highways and transport at Wokingham council, said: “I’m delighted the project has received national recognition for its commitment to be as green as possible and is setting new standards for environmental excellence.”

The £65 million project is aimed at reducing congestion and increasing public transport provision, pedestrian footways and cycle lanes.

Technically Junction 11 is in Wokingham but its hardly a Wokingham motorway junction. The scheme is led by Reading Borough Council yet Wokingham Borough Council get the glory it seems. Strange article.
Not sure why I bother

Misleading headline? She presented to prize, nothing about her being a judge or personally praising the scheme.

The Project has also caused huge delays/tailbacks

No chance of that much needed safety barrier along the A329(M) while they're at it then?
