Smiths News makes the headlines

November 20, 2009

Reading-based Smiths News has been named one of the best distributers in the land.

The depot in Acre Road was voted National Federation of Retail Newsagents’ (NFRN) Wholesaler of the Year.

NFRN president Suleman Khonat paid a surprise visit to congratulate the winning team for their outstanding support to independent retailers.

He said: ‘The culture within Smiths News Reading, from top to bottom, is one of giving their customers the best possible service and over the last few years this aim has been more than fulfilled with quite exceptional levels of service being achieved.”

The Reading branch distributes 2.25 million magazines and newspapers to retailers across the Reading and Oxford area every week.

Depot manager Clive Element praised the team effort that made the win possible.

He said: “Everyone from packers, drivers to warehouse operatives and customer service staff have all played their part in delivering this performance.”

NFRN Reading president Harish Patel added: “It’s phenomenal what the Smiths News Reading team has achieved.

“Our members regularly praise the level of service they provide – it’s great to have such a consistently accurate team right on our doorstep.”
