M&S Simply Food to open at the Royal Berkshire Hospital
November 18, 2009
This is not just any sandwich shop, this is a Marks & Spencer sandwich shop – and it’s coming to Royal Berkshire Hospital.
M&S Simply Food will move into the WhistleStop newsagent in February while the newsagent moves into the old Flowerstalk premises almost opposite.
The high street chain was reported to be coming to the hospital by the Reading Post in January but a setback in arranging a suitable lease delayed the move.
But now M&S has announced the new shop will be the second of its kind aiming to offer an alternative to hospital food.
It will be one of 20 Simply Food stores in hospitals across the country, the first already open in St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London.
Tony Keating, chief executive of the retailer’s franchise partner SSP UK, said the store will appeal to busy staff who work shifts and want good quality food at reasonable prices as well as to patients and visitors.
Patrick Johnson, chief operating officer at the trust, said: “We are delighted M&S Simply Food is to open in the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
“M&S Simply Food stores have a well deserved reputation for quality and choice, so we feel sure the many thousands who come to the Royal Berkshire Hospital each day will welcome this new development.”
