Rebrand to improve ‘Redding’
October 14, 2009
Could changing its name to ‘Redding’ and building a 50-storey library in the town be the key to improving Reading’s image?
They were just two of the ideas thought up by school pupils who were given the task of rebranding the town.
Students from Reading School, Kendrick School and The Holt School took part in the brainstorming event organised by the Central Berkshire Education Business Partnership.
They discussed a variety of ideas including more PCSOs to make Reading safer and giving the town a catchy slogan – “Work hard, Play hard” – to reflect its thriving business and night-time economies.
Sue Brackley, destination manager with Reading UK CIC, helped inspire pupils with an overview of the work the Reading Marketing Group has done to develop the Reading UK brand.
She said: “The winning entry was incredibly good – the team came up with the idea of building an iconic building that would become Reading’s unique selling point.”

Nice idea to get children involved in thinking about their town and analysing it as a 'brand'.
