Traffic congestion falls as recession bites
By Paul RobinsSeptember 08, 2009
Congestion on the M4 has fallen by 21 per cent in the past year due to the recession, new research has revealed.
A study by the AA claims traffic levels have dropped by nearly a third across the UK since the economic crisis took hold.
The study pinpoints six reasons why congestion has fallen:
- There has been a fall in the overall number of vehicles on the road.
- There has been a completion of major roadwork projects.
- Drivers are actively avoiding the rush hour periods.
- More people are working from home.
- More people are seeking alternative means of transport.
- There has been a fall in the number of commuters at peak times because of the recesssion.
