With 35 years in the hair industry under her belt, Sandra Sciaraffa-Stubbs has decided to set up her own salon, creating state-of the-art styles and colours.

The business:
Paparazzi Salon, Western Avenue, Woodley (0118) 954 2001, www.paparazzisalon.co.uk.

The boss:
Owner Sandra Sciaraffa-Stubbs.

What is the business about?
“Paparazzi is an independently-owned friendly salon. We provide all the traditional hair-related services together with some of the more ‘in demand’ requests such as hair extensions and bespoke hair care solutions.

“Paparazzi provides a welcoming and reliable service ensuring the local and regular customers with an intrinsic hair experience. We like to provide a select and sensitive service which welcomes all ages.”

What services do you offer?
“We offer all the traditional men’s, women’s and children’s hair styling, cut finish and blow drying.

“We also provide a selection of technical services which include high and low lights and an array of age defying colour treatments.

“We also offer perms and some of the more select requests for hair extensions, including the new range of Joico age defying colour system.”

How did you start?
“The idea was born out of my flair for hair and my passion for people, together with providing an unparalleled service.

“I like enriching my customers’ lives with a basic need to look and feel good about themselves and their hair.

“My team at Paparazzi provide a welcoming ‘home from home’ service encouraging a consistent, relaxed and professional touch each visit.”

Why did you choose the name?
“Paparazzi portrays my Italian family origin coupled with my training with the Italian ‘Califono Group’

“Gerard Califano, famous in the 70s and 80s for his skill and flair, gave me my first salon on Wokingham Road.

“I couldn’t have asked for more passionate and comprehensive hair training. I also wanted to encapsulate the concept of being ‘special’ and ‘in demand’ as any paparazzi celebrity identifies with.”

Who are your clients?
“A host of different ages and types of people make up my ever-growing client list, making it all the more interesting for me to feed my passion for hair. We cater for children and adults who enjoy the personal attention only a local salon can bring.”

What sets your salon apart from the rest?
“It has to be our unparalleled personal service from remembering family and friends’ special occasions to making sure we offer the most up-to-date high street portfolio of unique hair services.”

What’s it like being the boss?
“Although it’s not the first time I have been my own boss, after running Alexsandria’s Cutting Crew in Wokingham Road for 10 years, this time certainly is a new experience.

“Juggling family life and a new venture is a challenge, but nothing I don’t relish and enjoy wholly. The customers make it all worthwhile.”

Is now a good time to be running your own business?
“Admittedly it isn’t the easiest time, but my personal approach coupled with lots of fantastic support from friends and mums at the school opposite makes it much easier.”

Are you confident about the future?
“Of course. The locals and my regulars are so supportive. I have a really strong positive feeling.”

I've been a client of Sandra since the 70's and would not change her for anyone, she is not only very professional and good at her job but has alot of patience. I would recomend everyone to take a visit to Sandra's new salon in Woodley!
