Tesco to set up Homes in town

November 05, 2008

A shop that could provide jobs for up to 130 people is expected to open around next April.

Supermarket giant Tesco is planning to open a Homeplus store at the Peel Centre, Skimped Hill Lane, in time for the next financial year.

The store, which is one of three new Homeplus stores opening next year, will stock non-food items such as beauty, electrical and seasonal products.

Customers will also be able to order from the Tesco Direst catalogue in store.

Felix Gummer, Tesco spokesman, revealed the news on Monday and said Homeplus shops usually employ around 130 people on sites around 50,000 sq ft.

By the end of this year there will be ten Homeplus stores open, in places like Bristol, Chelmsford, Telford and Manchester.
