Top tips when buying or selling a business

20/11/2007

THE ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ when buying or selling a company were among the topics discussed at an exclusive meeting of business experts.

More than 40 local company bosses came together for the seminar at the Phyllis Court Club in Henley, which was organised by Reading-based chartered accountancy firm HW.

Attendees enjoyed a light buffet while addressing pertinent issues including how to assess the value of a business, tailoring a business for sale and options for growth.

Guest speakers from Contemplation Holdings, Jelf Group, Hentys LLP Solicitors, and Zeus Private Equity shared their experiences with the delegates.

Vicky Fox, tax partner based at HW’s office in Station Road, also offered her top tips on what  acquirers should be looking for in a potential target and how to approach negotiations when either buying or selling a business.

“Long term planning is the key,” she said. “If you are committed to involving key employees in the business it should not be left to the last minute.”
