Five-minute hero Cesky scores to save our blushesBy Katie Eleftheriou
November 27, 2009
Katie Eleftheriou, fan turned boss of the Bracknell Bees, gives an insight into running a top ice hockey team.
Wow, well that was a shocker! Jedward out of the X-Factor and Katie Price has left the jungle.
But I’m sure you don’t want to hear about that. You want to hear about my fabulous week in the life of running the Bracknell Bees!
As you saw last week, the Mos are coming on nicely.
We will be having a collection for the boys this weekend for those of you that can’t get online to sponsor them.
Scrambler is still working hard to grow his Mo. Perhaps he should take a leaf out of Housey’s book and put some mascara on it to make it look darker...
I would rather not dwell too much on the result on Saturday. Suffice to say, we were outplayed at every step of the game.
However, the highlight for me was our one goal by our latest addition (and little cherub) Callum Best. Now, remind me, which club let him go? Sweet justice.
You would have also noticed that we were celebrating the work of the Bracknell Forest Placement Team at our game on Sunday. What fabulous people they are. I hope you visited their display in the foyer.
The team took home several bags of teddy bears as a thank you from the Bees and their fans for all their hard work within the community.
We were also greatly honoured by the presence of Cllr Barnard who presented the MOM at the end of the game and what a game! If you missed it, it’s definitely one for your DVD collection. Real edge of your seat stuff.
The boys are under strict instructions to make the games as exciting as possible at home. I think I’m right in saying that it was just that.
I’m sure a lot of you were expecting a repeat performance on Sunday of the night before.
Sadly, for all you Jets fans (ha ha), the Bees had other ideas. Although, I must say, they need to wake up a little earlier than five minutes before the final buzzer. I suppose this just adds to the excitement?
During the first period, we were all desperately waiting for the elusive goal. Personally, I think its Stuart’s fault.
He said we could all throw our teddies on to the ice when the Bees score their first goal during the first period and if we didn’t score it would be at the end of the period.
Talk about the kiss of death! Does anyone remember the bra toss? Well, with only four shots on the slow Jets during the first, it was highly unlikely we would score. At least it was only 1-0 to the Jets.
Our first goal, just over three minutes into the second was quickly followed by another goal from the Jets and then… nothing!
Yes, we had a few interesting penalties with both the Jets and the Bees receiving 2 + 10 for misconduct but other than that, the period was fairly uneventful.
On to the third period and the third goal was scored by Koulikov after just over 13 minutes.
I am sure, much like myself, you were all feeling somewhat downhearted and were anticipating the resounding defeat at the hands of the Jets when our hero of the hour – okay, the hero of five minutes, Cesky, scored two blinders to even the score.
The first at 55:38 was shortly followed by a second at 56:44.
Rocky didn’t know what hit him, or should I say, went past him! Over yer left shoulder Rockman!
The Bees managed to hold off the Jets for the remainder of the period to bring us into our first overtime period of the season.
A bench minor penalty for too many imports saw Cesky find the back of the net for our fourth consecutive win at home.
What a finale! Like I said before, if you missed the game, this is a DVD must have!
He is definitely too Cesky for his shirt!
Tune in for our home game on Saturday against the Raiders from Romford – Jesse’s cowboys, the good, the bad and the ugly. You decide!
And then we travel up north to Sheffield to face the Scimitars on Sunday.
Still proud to be a Bee, Katie x
